85 mkII manual.

Okay this may seem kinda unanswerable. But the other day i was driving down the road and my engine suddendly just died going about 60. From there on is was idling really rough and it sounded as though it was a crappy v-8 from the exhaust. Come to find out my number 2 cylinder isn't working. Well at least when i pull the wire the engine tone does not change. What are some common known things on mkII's that causes this? Because i have had a mechanic look at it and without doing many checks on it he said that it might be the ecu or injector. I listened to the injectors and it sounded fine. Why do i only have a 5 cyl supra....? I would appreciate the help guys

Well, when my #5 stopped firing, I found out it was because the rod was sticking out the side of the block  Hopefully that's not the case with yours. Start by pulling the plug wire off the plug and see if it arcs onto a ground point. You should get about 1/2" arc. If not, check your distributor cap/rotor. If it does spark, check your plug. Swap plugs with another cylinder. Also, check your wire for arc points. Swap it with another cylinder too, see if it changes. If all spark is good then something is up with fuel or compression. Do a compression check. Check your injector.

Well i switched wires to see if it was that and its still the same prob so its not the wire. I pulled the plug and connected the wire to it and started the car and the plug is firing so its not the distributor. And i was hearing suction comming from the hole so i really don't think a rod could be sticking threw the block

Well i just gave my engine a compression test. i had 30.......... on my number 2. Now i really don't think tahts an injector
One of the guys (here in NZ) had a similar problem with his 5M; down on cylinder 6.
He started to strip it down and after lifting the cam covers, found the lobes on the cams almost missing for number 6.

It's a place to start and easy to check.

It does sound like a vavle not seating correctly.....i always love those boroscopes, they're great to look down throught the spark plug hole, but you could remove the valve cover and see if you can see any problems......good luck...

Well i had the valve cover off and it seemed fine but that doesn't mean it is. It did happen all of a sudden but for about 2 months prior to it happening there was a noice comming from my left valve cover that was kinda like a metal on metal clanking noise but only under load. Someone suggested that i might have jumped timing when my timing belt tensioner spun its self.. I dunno

****EDIT**** how do i check my valves?
