i just bought a 1983 celica supra, the body and frame are mint but the engine was having some problems. i got the car for a deal and i figured i could fix all the mechanical myself. i did a compression check and the results were very odd and now i have removed the valve covers and have noticed that there are what i think are rocker arms missing on cylinders 2 and 5. these two cylinders were the two giving me trouble during my compression test. i have been reading things on this forum for a while and i know you guys know what your doing with celica supras so i would just like to know a little about this engine, if this could have been the problem and how to fix this.

this is the first cylinder with all parts

this is the second cylinder with missing rocker arm

this is the fifth cylinder with missing rocker arm

If they are not just lying by the valve bet they PO take them out becuase of a problem with the piston/bearings.

If all is good use a pry bar on the valve stem with the cam lob pointed up and slip it back on.

Waynardmane,

If the finger followers (rockers) have fallen off, something in the valvetrain is sticking or not functioning properly.

If you do not find them inside the cam case housings they have either been removed or have fallen down into the oil pan. There are several oil return holes that are large enough for the followers to fall through. In-fact, I know that the #5 Intake can be a problem, for sure...

Don't ask me how I know, but I have had to pull the engine before to fish them out...

Best Regards,

Carlos
