6M-GE questions.

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I just bought my wife a 1984 Supra for her toy. To use for SCCA events and such.
The car I bought has been sitting for five years. I was told a lady drove it to the shop and after she turned off the engine it locked up solid. I have not pulled the engine and seen the amount of damage to it, but It may be cheaper to just get a good engine to start with.

Which brings me to my question. I've heard that the 6m-ge is a direct bolt in into this car and I was wondering how big of an improvment that would be (not that I know how good it is now  ). Does the 6m get it's extra .2 liters from bore or stroke?(will I have more torque?).

Also while daydreaming I was wondering if the all the m series engines are interchangable mechinacally, I understand they went to a speed denisty system later so the ecu + would need to be changed. And in the most radical dreams how do the jz series fit into the MKII. Thanks for any help

I have an 84 with a 6MGE and a 85 with a 5MGE

I noticed a difference between the both  6MGE seemed to pull a bit harder :p IMO I think the 6MGE is worth it. put in some intake/headers/exhaust and your gonna like a whole lot more

Not everything interchanges mechanically..... Like putting in a 7M crank into a 5M block, you will need to do some mods.

Also, you need to read the entire engine name to see how it's set up. Like for instance... 5ME vs 5MGE.... Single overhead cam vs double overhead cam... Timing chain vs. timing belt...

Time to make liberal usage of the Search button!!!!

They fit like they were made to go there. :)

yes the 6m pulls harder. has 190 hp stock instead of 160 like the 5m and has 9.2:1 compression instead of 8.8:1(i think that is the real difference).
the 6m gets the extra by stroke. the 6mge is basicly a 5m with 7m crank and rods. (not exactly but about right.)
re: 6M-GE

6M has 190hp, without emmission equipment attached. If you live in a pollution controlled Province or State, it will have less hp.

Fits like a glove! But the hood doesn't fit back on. As evidenced in the photo, this can be a macho/hi-tech look for the car. You'll get used to it, and besides, it improves cooling dramatically!

I thought in Norbie's movie at the drags he has his hood on?
