I just pulled the motor out of my 85 and was going to do a rebuild but then someone told me I should go with a 6m, which I would love to but if i do that I want one with low miles like 30-40k or so and don't know where to fine one.

If I got one with high miles I would want to take it apart and probably give it a rebuild also but I don't have the money to buy one and rebuild it also. so either I rebuild the one I have or get a 6m with low miles.

Does anybody know where to get a 6m with low miles? I know where to get one with 60-80k miles.

What do you guys think I should do? remember I'm poor.

It definatly look ugly. Id go with a 6m and a good 2.5in exhast all the way to complement the 6m.
I know Aaron Garney for RabidChimp.com sells some.
Racetek82 also sells some.

Sorry Racefriend.

Nobody can tell you how many miles are on a 6m. They are separated from the car and odometer and piled into shipping containers with tons of other motors and transmissions and wholesaled quite literally "by the pound". As I understand it, if the car being dismantled actually runs, the motors go into one crate at one price and if not running, they go into another crate at a lower price. Retailers can spin the motors to test compression but that isn't much of a guarantee as too many other things can be wrong, especially after sitting in a warehouse near a salty pier for years. Buying a 6m has historically been somewhat of a crap shoot. Recently, however, a couple of our forum members have begun to retail 6ms and either would go out of their way to inspect everything and make sure a fellow supraholic had the best possible chance of getting a good one. I suggest you contact Ray Fong or Aaron Garney here on the forums.

Turbo puts a whole new spin on things. I'll say it again, don't build a 6m-gte unless you've already got a 6m, in which case the principal of sunk cost applies. By the time you buy and ship a 6m, build it up to withstand the abuse, and buy all the turbo bits piecemeal and all the aftermarket gizmos to make it work, you could've bought a perfectly good running mk3t and swapped the engine over and still have money left over for mods. Since you stated that you are poor, just rebuild the 5m for now, tap the pan for the drainback while its out of the car, and add the turbo bits later as you can afford it.
