Bloody hell, having a hard time posting keep getting "invalid session" stuff--ANYWAY, basically I tore up the #4 cylinder in my seemingly perfect 140k mile 5MGE, now I'm considering buying a 6MGE, but before I shell out $700 to anyone, I want to get some stuff straight.
#1. although it will operatew/ my current ECU I would prefer finding an ECU for the 6MGE, if anyone knows where and how much a 6MGE ECU would be, please reply or email me
#2. I know all 6MGEs should be rebuilt upon arrival/before installation. So basically I have to order parts for 2 different engines from the Parts stores right? The upper from say an 85 Supra and the bottom end from an 87 Supra? Please let me know so I can start pricing this project

All the rebuild parts are the same as 5m with the exception of the front main seal which is a 7M part. You'll likely find that the 6M ECU will cost close to what the engine does. Just run it on the 5M ECU, it will run just dandy.

Aaron's right. Also the oil pump drive shaft seal is a 7m part #. All other gaskets and seals and bearings and replaceable stuff are 5m part #s. Remember that all 6m's came out of 4dr Crown Royale Saloons with automagic transmissions. If you got a 5sp, then you don't want the ECU from the Crown anyway. Use 210cc injectors from an 85-86 mr2 or corolla gts and leave everything else stock and it will run flawlessly and pass all emissions tests.

Also, the invalid session errors can be done away with by minimizing AOL and using Internet Explorer or Netscape.

Oil pump driveseal from a 5M kit works just fine. The 7 and 5M seal are both the same part number 90311-42003. The only other seal I've had to buy on two different 6Ms was the front main seal (7 and 6M seal has a bigger ID). I wouldn't run the 210cc injector unless you have a few mods as well (i.e. header, intake, exhuast etc.). My previous red 85 ran just fine with everything but the header on the stock 182 cc injectors.

I have been looking for a 6M ECU for 2 years now and have found only one source,... $650 for the one they had then and that was IF they could get it over here.
If you find another please LMK. In addition to being used in crowns/limos, they were also used in Soarers for one year,.. '86 I believe.
That would be the one I want.

What the hell did I get in my 5m gasket set then? I had ishino gasket set and the seal fro the oil pump drive shaft was too small. Took original 6m one down to toyota dealer and rummaged around bins till they got one the did work and they said it was a 7m seal. Never cross referenced the part #, just took it for granted. Oh well.

My previous red 85 ran just fine with everything but the header on the stock 182 cc injectors.

Do you think that the 6m will have that problem as well? My 85 currently has a 6m, with a Rabid Chimp intake and a 2.5 inch cat back exhaust system. I believe that they transferred everything on top (including my injectors) from the 5m to the 6m when they did the swap.
I also own a Doug Thorley header, MSD 6AL, and a doner ECU with a soon to be very nasty eprom burn from EL prototypes that have yet to be put on the supra. The goal of course is to have my "offroad use only" supra and my daily driver interchangeable with switch of a computer. Do you think that putting in 210 injectors and a fuel pressure regulator will change the smog readings if operating under the normal stock condition?
