Here is what is happening. I swaped out my 5mge with a 6mge and all is well with the engine ( runs great plenty of power). The problem is that on warm days at about 25hundred to 4grand the engine pings. It just starts pinging (from slight to heavy depending on how hot of a day it is and how many people are in the car) and dosen't quit untill i let off the gas or get above 4k. On hot days i have to let off the gas. This all happens with premium gas and i have tried all different brands. I was wondering if timing was an issue. I have no clue on how to time the engine I did the jumper thing and nothing happend as far as getting the mark on the crank to line up with 10 degrees. would the ecu also be a problem. thanks for your help.

BTW i have a 5mge block if anyone wants to take it off my hands. the cracked head is still attached to the engine.

Check the IAT sensor per the TSRM and get the timing set. Mine does the same thing on hot days even with the timing at 10*, premium fuel or not. My 5M did it too, pre swap, so I'm prettyy sure it's the IAT sensor.

Intake Air temp. sensor, mounted inside the AFM underneath the black cover with two small philips head screws. The IAT sensor is basically a thermistor that is encapsulated in plastic and varies resistance with changes in intake air temp.. Easy to replace, but I doubt if you can get a new one from Toyota. Maybe??
