I think its 89-92 autos that have the 80 amp alt. The others are all smaller. I've ran mine now for a while with no big problems. The only thing I have is that the belt slips occasionally. I attribute that to using a cheapo Autozone belt. Tightening it doesn't seem to help it. Its a great upgrade though. If you are more adventerous you might try installing a 2nd gen Mr2 turbo alternator. I've heard they are a direct swap on 7ms if you use the old 7m pulley. Supposedly they are 100-120 amps from the factory. If they fit a 7M direct fit they should hopefully direct fit a 5/6M with the same work.
