So I have only been living in the US for 13 years. Prior to that I lived in Indonesia. I watched bunch of "American" TV shows that never got popular. I talk about it with my coworkers that are about the same age and they never seen them before except my coworker from Colombia lol.
Maybe they only ran a a season--if that--and were then farmed out on the cheap at overseas syndicates. Obama-esque childhood in Indonesia? Those look like the early days of computer animation when TRON (the movie) came out My wife from Colombia still manages to share most of the stars and shows from American TV--all of that runs overseas, I guess.I missed those two. Funny.
I lived overseas for years at a time in 69, 76-79, and 85-86, so I always watched some of the better American series in German: Simon and Simon, the series with James Garner as private detective (I have Alzheimers--Rockford Files--than you, Google) etc. I also first watched Jaws and Saturday Night Fever in another language.
However, there are whole NBA seasons and Super Bowls which I never saw and can't talk about. Makes you feel a bit like Rip Van Winkle.
in 2000 I went back and saw a series almost like KnightRider except it is a black SUV and a black dude drives the car. It has the knight rider light at the front. I cant seem to find the clip on youtube.
yep i watched manimal. im amazed they remade V. they had a marathon on syfy a couple weeks ago of the old series i had to watch. my wife being seven years younger than me had never seen it. wasnt there a beastmaster tv show in the 80s as well?
What gets me is that the TVLand channel runs Andy Griffith ad-nauseum throughout the day and then wastes all that bandwidth in the primetime with crappy "reality" shows. C'mon, there are countless hours of old TV programs that I'm sure they could license on the cheap and a vast audience who are nostalgic about them.
I call it pretty bad that I remember watching everyone of those shows. Riptide was probably the favorite of the ones that are listed. Manimal was just stupid at that time too but we still watched it.
I was in the Air Force in the 80's, stationed in Japan, and we got the same thing. The explanation I was given is that AFN purchased a complete season in advance, and regardless of what happened to them in the states, i.e. canceled, AFN was stuck with them and so on the air they went.
I'm guessing the same thing happened elsewhere....
I don't think Ive ever seen Manimal! Ha ha ha... I was laughing my A off! Pewny Technology back then! I do remember Automan like it was yesterday! I loved that show! Especially the chopper, That chopper was the Shiznit! Finally, Riptide, Ive never heard of! But that Thom Bray character looks like the Mac guy on the Mac commercials! "Hi I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC!" But Manimal looks like a knock off of the 80's cartoon Brave Star! (Brave Star, Eyes of a Hawk, ears of a wolf. Brave star, strength of a bear, speed of a puma!)
240-Robert, 240-Robert, I'm glad the producers didn't opp the title for 420-Robert instead! But, It would have been interesting! Mark Harmon, what a joke! Ha ha ha... And the Phoenix reminds me of that Adult Swim cartoon Xavier renegade angel! And lucan, did he ever get it on like a wolf? lol
