GT should have been a 1.8.
LX would have been 1.9

Even the GT isn't anything too impressive.

1991-1996 1.8 L (1839 cc) Mazda BP I4, 127 hp (95 kW) 114 ft·lbf (155 N·m) LX-E and GT
Not impressive numbers but the car appears to only weigh around 2500 lbs. The difference in weight makes its performance comparable to an MK2 IMO. That's about 500 lbs lighter which equals 1/2 seconds in a 1/4 mile run.

ZX2 has a little less power but weighs 500 pounds less.

Would probably be quicker than your car depending on mechanical condition and such.

My neighbor also boasts a whopping 35mpg. I'm a little sad because I had always regarded the Escort as a POS, yet it yields pretty good power compared to our MKIIs and even though 2 less cylinders much more efficient milage. Now, I have respect for them.

I raced my buddies 92 mazda pro, with the 1.8 gt motor in it, he had full exhuast, clutch, intake, pistons, ported and polished head and intake mani, fuel pressure reg, alot of stuff done to it, and my old 85 was faster by about 2 lengths but we stayed like that all the way down. so if that helps any lol, my supra was stock other then muffler, and a cone filter,

My mistake guys, it's a 2000. The only distinguishing markings are the zx2 embedded into the rear bumper.
why are your comparing a mkii to a car that has 15 years of technological ad mechanical advanvate?

btw don't you know na mkii's are slow?

I feel your pain but we gotta stop thinking this way. NA technology has come along way since the early 80s and 4-bangers usually weigh less.. It's nice when we DO still come out on top but we shouldn't expect it just cause we drive a Supra.

My car is NA and yea, lose more races than I win (some of that is directly my fault). Guys respect this car and still think it's dynamite when in truth, it's NA form isn't much, but it's this cars TRUE form. I think about going turbo one day and may do so, but one could say are cars weren't meant to be turbo'd since it never got it's own turbo motor. for whatever reason.

I love my escort gt. has the 127hp (sae) mazda inline 4. stock for stock, it would be close, but as my car sits right now, I could beat a stock mk2. I just have intake and some exhaust work done, I'm making about 140hp at the wheels, and weigh in at a measly 2400 pounds. and my last fill up was 36mpg.

how does exhaust and intake work bump a car from 127 crank hp to 140 hp at the wheels? seems a little high to me.

Meh... I could see performance exhaust and intake making 13 horsepower easily.. especially if those were limiting the car's power.

13 crank hp maybe. but going on the basis that most cars lose 15-20% of their hp through the drivetrain, the exhaust on intake on that car netted him over 30 hp at the wheels.

our supras in stock form really arent fast.....at all. they get out of their way and move pretty good, especially considering how old they are, but alot of new little econo cars like civics and such, give our cars a good run for their money. the one big thing that i really enjoy about my car as opposed to most newer cars, is that its a blast to drive and handles really good.

the intake on these cars is extremely restrictive, even moreso than the supra. So with a cone filter, upgraded AFM (3" throughout instead of 2.25"), intake pipe, and timing advanced to 16* running premium fuel. Along with the opened up exhaust. It moves. I would honestly say I'm making 130-140whp.
