Hi all,

I thought some of you might be interested to know that Paul Pyyvaara in conjunction with RallyTorque Motorsport has completed development of an MA61 rear crossmember which allows camber adjustment on the rear wheels. This should be especially useful for those of us who have lowered suspension and thus way too much rear camber!

Pics can be found on Paul's web site:

A quote from the man himself:
The only thing we ask is that if anyone in SEQLD wants this done they go to RallyTorque and not another engineering shop who copies from the net. We can ask but not police of course .... but that is why there are no instructions or measurements. ;) For DIY folks it should not be too hard to work out and I am not fussed about that.
So for folks in Australia speak to RallyTorque and you can have your very own adjustable camber crossmember. Estimated cost is AU$290 with customer supplied crossmember, not fitted.

Yes I will be installing one of these as soon as possible and I will report the results here. :)

Wow, the car looks great.

I have a couple of questions.

What kind of simmons wheels are those and are they still available?

What is AU$290 in us dollars?

Can we do this modification in the US?

Based on a quick calculation I have 430mm from end to end of the lower arms where they mount to the crossmember and I now have 22mm of camber adjustment at the outer end up and down. This should be good for around 3.5 degrees of adjustment - considering I had 2.5-2.7 degrees of negative it will be just perfect :) So in theory the range should be +1 to -2.5.

I will most likely set things up at 0 degrees - once the car moves and most certainly under acceleration it will obviously squat and give some negative but this should be good for tyre wear and day to day driving. Then if I want to go play at a circuit and get a bit more neg I can, and likewise if I go to the drags I could dial a bit of positive so that under acceleration the tyres are more evenly "flat" as the car squats. Hope to get it fitted over the Christmas break ...

/edit: oh, the wheels are Simmons FR17s - yes they are still available. $290US is around $215US. A good engineer should be able to look at the pics I have online, buy the camber bolts (not unlike the toe adjustment bolts) and make the same mods.

To find the current exchange rate, go to http://www.xe.com/ucc/ for the latest currency exchange...

As for the fixing the camber on the back of the car, fantastic... I'll look more into it when I decide to lower my SA63.

Cheers.

Any possibility of a kit?

It doesn't make much sense to ship a "customer supplied crossmember" over from the US and then shipping it all back. Any chance of buying it as a kit with a local crossmember and shipping it off to the USA?

Why don't they offer a kit for overseas customers. Hardware and instructions? The package would be small and not too heavy to ship.

If they are worried about people copying the design offer a one time group buy. 10-20+ minimum order.

To tell you the truth I could copy it just from seeing the pics, I would just have to play around with getting the right hardware for the angles needed. Simple design that's what makes such a mod brilliant.

If the group buy is reasonable I'm in. Eaier than sourcing my own parts.

I've actually been toying around with the idea of a MK2/MK3 subframe/suspension hybrid. I wonder if it would work? It would help with the camber problem, give us a better rear suspension and five bolt hubs.

First I have to complete the Z32/R32 brake swap and get another MK2 to try all this ideas on. I'm slowely compiling a ton of MK2 parts, but no shell to put them on.

On closer inspection of the pics I see what you mean. Taking a quick glance I thought they had actualy put a new lower control arm outer support.

Not quite Dave. Besides the bolts I don't think there are any new brackets they've welded on, but the stock support brackets are heavily worked. Their vertical dimensions have been modified to keep the discs on the camber bolts perfectly wedged in place. Technically if you could find some of those bolts with the perfect sized disc (or make some), you wouldn't have to modify the bracket, but they obviously did (as the whole bracket has is bare metal). I'd say they did a little welding on the upper and lower sections of the brackets to adjust them to fit the disc. The price is very fair for that work 290aus is about 270 cdn, and 230 us. 30 bucks for parts, plus 4 hours labour at 50 bucks us an hour, sounds about right to me if you'd done it before.

As most of you have worked out, the cross member is the stock unit with slotted holes, a camber bolt and some bracing in the right spots to make it a bit easier to adjust things - hence why I am not worried about folks anywhere but SE Qld in Aus copying - more to bring a bit more business my engineer's way as he spent a bit of tim eon this with me to work things out. If you are OS, you can work things out from the pics! :) :D

I tore the rear brakes off my car today. While I was under there. I was looking at the rear A-Arms and mine already have the adjustments cams on there already. It's an 85 Celica GTS. Do the later model U.S. Spec. Supra's have them installed on them?

That cam is for toe adjustment only. Supras have those aswell.
Neither the Celica GTS nor the Supra have adjustment cams for camber adjustment from the factory.

exactly, if you look at the other mounting point in the pictures, the one that hasn't been modified, you can see that there is a slot that goes horizontally. That's for toe adjustment and stock it has a cam very similar to the one shown.
