Afraid engine blew on my 86 MKII seeking a rebuilder or new engine.

Earlier this evening was enjoying the beautiful weather, sunroof open, Robert Plant in the cassette and cruising 70 when engine oil pressure dropped and awful loud clanging noise. Power dropped but it still ran a little with loud noise and then when I pulled of the side of the road, engine stopped. Won't even turn over. 1st question, any ideas based on that little info? 2nd anyone know of a rebuilder that may be located near Columbus Ohio. Wouldn't mind taking some steps to improve Performance too while maintaining originality of my 86 Blue and Silver MKII. Appreciate any and all feedback. Sad day.

oil pump sounds like it went. common thing with our cars got any videos of it running? My car had similar issue but it turned out to be a misfire from bad timing.

Oil level is fine, about half way on stick
Any sparkly metal particles in the oil like a 1970's low rider paint job?

So, at this point, pull the plugs out and see if you can turn the engine by hand--I assume you know how to do that with a socket and wrench on the crankshaft bolt. If it is completely locked up, you will need to investigate further. Next would be to see if you can turn it over again by hand after removing the timing belt. This will tell you if you seized a piston or broke the crank if you still cannot get it to move. If you can, then its a camshaft/valve that's gone bad. You can then move to the cams and see which one does not turn at all.

I second the fluids check, look for sparkly oil, even check the coolant to look for signs of mixing. If you can get it spinning by hand it might be worth pulling the oil filter, cutting it open, and seeing what you are working with.
