Greetings CelicaSupra aficionados! I’m fairly new to the supra world, having just bought my first one in the last week. Got a 1985 Mk2 P-type with the 5mge and converted from the auto to 5 speed. Super Deep Red with black interior, apparently a rare colour combo for this year?
The car currently doesn’t run and has some electrical gremlins that I’m slowly hunting down. Thought I’d join on in case I end up at some tough road blocks along the way. While I do have lots of mechanical experience on older Dodge trucks (currently daily a 94 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with a 5.9 360 I swapped in this spring), I’ve found the mechanical design of this car to be more than just a walk in the park! But I look forward to the potential challenges that I may encounter! And I hope the forum and it’s experts will be of great help as I tackle this project in hopes of making it a summer cruiser!

Welcome!! Search and search!!

I would also recommend the EWD (Electrical wiring Diagram) manual for the '85 as well...and the owners manual list all the fuses and relays as well...

Welcome. I thought we had determined that the only black seats came in the 83 model year, otherwise would have been grey to go with the black trim. Can someone confirm? All of the 85s I have seen in SDR have either black vinyl interiors with grey seats, or few have had a kind of burgundy colored interior. Lots of people would have preferred black over grey and some people ordered new leather seat covers from Northwest Auto Leather in Canada where black was probably the #1 choice.

I would start by checking out all the relays and fuses. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

I’ve done some testing with what I’ve got in regards to the lighting situation. The headlight retainer relay isn’t in the car at the moment due to the common corrosion issue. Thru jumping some pins on the retainer connector I’ve managed to get all the marker lights, tail lights, and instrument cluster lights to operate with the combo switch, but I have no headlights or fog lights. The headlights pop up properly at least. And the dome light doesn’t operate with the doors, only lighting when switched to ON.
As far as the engine goes, it’s getting spark and the fuel pump was replaced last fall. So I’ll be in the process of seeing if the pump is powering as supposed to and if the injectors are pulsing.

I will note all the fuses are good, relays appear fine but I may end up ordering new ones regardless. I did pop a few fuses while jumping pins on the headlight retainer connector, got those all replaced as I’ve gone along.

Wow, may just be me but a bunch of Albertans have just appeared out of nowhere. Also, how did you come across it? I browse kijiji and the facebook marketplace periodically and I can never find many mk2's around.

Haha, it seems that way as I continue looking at all the threads! I bought this one off a friend of mine in Medicine Hat for $1,500 CAD. He’s owned multiple Supras and right now has a 91 Mk3 1JZ project. He just didn’t have the time to put towards this one and was needing a slight finance boost. So he offered it to me.

Awesome. Can't really tell but it seems to be in decent shape. If he's a Supra guy then he probably took pretty good care of it so on the surface it certainly seems like you got a good deal. Hopefully the electrical isn't too much of an issue...

For its age, the paint is nearly immaculate. Just needs a good polish. The body has a couple small dings, and there’s rust in the wheel wells and under some of the exterior trim moulding. Buddy had both front and rear subframes out to clean and protect them with rockerguard coating.
Haha, thanks! I think I got most of the electrical figured out this evening. Finally found out the headlight relay was shot and was the reason my headlights and fogs weren’t operating. Now I gotta figure out the no-start issue.

I understand that you LOST your original forum name and the moderators can help. They helped me fix a LOT of problems.
They are busy people and just allow some time for their response.

Thanks. Dave in Seattle,WA.
