Our part of northern california has begun a new smog check procedure, causing many shops to stop doing the smog checks. Investing in 40k of equipment prevented two shops I trusted from continuing the service. New procedure involves a mini-dyno of sorts, running the car on a roller.
Have any of you with DT headers had any problems from the new shops?
I just downloaded from www.arb.ca.gov site the EO# D-200-19 for the Doug Thorley headers. I got mine used, so no paperwork, tags, etc.
Wondering if a copy of this EO will fly with the inspection station. Any thoughts, suggestions ? The shops I used to go to never even looked at the exhaust manifold area. Thanks !

I had some DT headers on my white mk2 when I smoged my car. It passed with no problem, although the guy there asked for the sticker with the OE numbers on it. other than that it was fine

Most shops now always do a visual inspection the fines are too large to fudge as CARB sends dummy cars in for spot checks.

I may have a instruction sheet from DT I'll look for it. Most stations should have a reference book with E/O parts in it??

I have used Valley Import Center for 20 yrs in San Ramon if you need a test and Old Town Arco in Danville where I just took my truck.

I just had my'95 Chevy truck C2500 5.7 smogged with 3" Gibson exhaust, Bank air cleaner, Jet chip, Accel blue air filter and airbox replaced with tube. Passed no problem except the timing was off 1 degree.

Make sure idle is correct, timing is dead on stock setting, engine at operating temp. No AFM mod or cone filter

The Sup will fail the NO test if the EGR is not working or clogged. I just had the 86 smogged under the old test earlier this yr and passed at almost "0" levels.

Arch

Thanks guys. My Supra passed pretty easily last time I went in for the smog check, all the readings were surprisingly good. I was just concerned that the tech might notice that the exhaust manifold is not stock (although he would be assuming right ?) and of course I have no sticker from DT or such, but will claim that the unit is a DT model and provide him the EO authorization reprinted from the CARB website. I really have no way of proving that the unit is a DT product though, could be challenging. I guess no way Gov. Arnold going to repeal this deal !

Don, Vacaville has been under Smog Nazi rule for some time now. I went to a pretty strict smog only station here, and he was having a shit fit over the DT headers. I called DT and they faxed me all the CARB paperwork for the header. I bought the header before it was CARB certified (no EO# stamped on it) but it still applies. Smog Nazis were happy, too.

I just showed the EO sticker with header part # and EO# and pointed to the 530Y part number stamped into the header. They didn't raise a fuss about it after that. Still didn't pass the sniffer, but it passed the visual fine.

Hi Aaron, did you finally get your car to pass? What did you need to change to get the readings down ? My headers are pretty old, maybe I can go underneath and stamp in the part# onto one of the tubes. Maybe will fly ?
