I also have an 88 GTS. I bought this car after giving up on finding my 85 Supra, then a month and a half later the Supra landed in my lap. Ye ha. Anyway, the GTS seems to have ended up with all the toys after the Supra seperated from the Celica line, so this thing is loaded, leather and all the trimmings of my 85 Supra, just FWD and 4 banger. Which brings me to my question. It has a 3SGE engine, and when ordering gaskets from toyota, was told that this engine was rare, the car usually came with the camry 3SFE. I have also seen on the web, linking from a thread on here, my 3SGE referred to as a "race inspired" engine. I know it hauls ass, I had it out before parking it in the corner of the shop for a head gasket repair "when I get around to it". Anyone got any insight to this engine? Appreciate any thoughts.

the 3SGE is a badass motor. Thats what is used in the Japan Grand Touring Car Series in the MK4 Supra. Yes they take out the 2JZ and put the 3SGTE Turbo motor in. It also powered the Pikes peak Celica which still holds the world record, and Tacoma driven by rod millen. Yes it is very rare, keep it if you can.
