Topic speaks for it's self. I'm considering trying the 4.56's for hillclimbs. I need acceleration more than top end. What do you all think? Wrong gear choice or not? Getting tired of 3rd place finishes....

S1S,
I have 245/50 14s on my 6M 84 and have run 4.30s. With the 5% smaller tires the final drive ratio is equivalent to 4.56s.
The additional acceleration is worth it for sure, but if yours is a daily driver the freeway mileage will suffer. I lost about 2 mpg.
Mine is an automatic, so the ultra low 1st gear problems don't apply (2.45:1). With a 5sp, 1st gear will be over in a heartbeat,... But 2nd, 3rd and 4th will pull that much harder! :D

I got the gears aftermarket and put them in the spare rear that I have. I'm going to try it at the next hillclimb and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, I'll just swap the 4:10's back in. Maybe I'll hit the local yard and see if they have a 4:30.
I got the 4.56's from Randy's Ring and Pinion. Quick service....

Will any toyota 7.5in gears work in the mk2 diff? What brand gears did you get? How much $$$$? I found the site for Randy's but not too much info on it, as in a list of available gear ratios.

Thanks,

5.29s and 5.72s are available for the Toy pickup IFS front, it is the same exact center chunk as the Supra rear...if anyone feels crazy enough to run gears that low.

East side, north of Allentown and Philly. Small town called Nesquehoning.
I race my Supra in SCCA Solo1, AKA hillclimbs. Last event of the season is coming up at the end of the month and I'd like to try the 4.56's and see how they work out.

I'd host them for you...but a 5 meg video times the number of downloads this forum would generate = serious bandwidth killer. I have like 20 gig of bandwidth per month on my company website, and I'm just not that brave.
