Hi guys, I'm thinking of purchasing an 85 MkII supra from a friend of mine from work. How much do you guys pay for insurance/year for that car (and at what discount level)? Thanks!

Still thinking about it as the MkII has lots of rust (was a former Winnipeg car), but seems mecanically sound. Any advice?

Cheers;
Peter

with just comprehensive and bare minum everything else and a 40 percent discount I was paying 75 bucks a month when I was living in Burnaby for my 85.

I wouldn't buy the winnipeg car unless it was winter garaged there or its dirt dirt cheap. You won't find any rust free ones here either but you can do much much better then the average condition of a supra from elsewhere in canada.

Thanks guys... I might get it for dirt cheap, since she's a friend of mine. But I need to see how much rust there is... I'll post a picture when I see the car sometime this week or the weekend.

And no, it's not winter garaged because she said she has an extra set of rims and tires for winter with the car.

Well, I pay $1300/yr(approx) with %10percent discount. That is $200 deductable and full fire/theft/vandalism insurance, 3rd party liability upto 3mill.

If it's got more then minimal rust I wouldn't get it. You should be able to get a nearly rust free one for around $2k here.

Is this an L-Type or a P-Type?
Yikes!

That car will be a money pit. Don't bother with it unless it's a freebie.

I bought a Vancouver car this year which was VERY well kept-up. The only visible rust was in the left rear belt moulding (it was bubbling up). However, when I had the car painted there was a lot more rust which needed to be fixed (mainly in the rear quarters, where it had to be cut out and grafted)...looks great now, though: http://www.malibyte.net/Supra/85supra.html. A car with that much VISIBLE rust will explode in a cloud of red dust if it got hit.

Just my humble opinion. :p
