Nick,
Bummers!!!! Sorry that I missed out on meeting you this year!!!! Next year for sure, okay?????
Mark. "Spacing/Speed/Line".....
No passing others during the lap, no passing the pace car (until he pulls off after turn 11), you can hug the inside corners (where the red/white blocks are), just no off-roading excursions like some PacNW peeps that I know (you'll have to look in the PacNW archives about the Rob Fenner/Lawnmowing stories from previous years). Speed... Just be aware of how fast everyone is going in front of you & then, get familiar w/ the track. One thing that I need to do one of these days, is hand out a map of the road course to all of the newbies, so that they know where all of the turns are located. Also on the long straightaway backstretch.... Look at the "big ass" picture that Will posted, you will see the "end of the straightaway" markers on the fence (400, 300, 200, 100), that lets you know that a turn is coming up & it's time to start braking... At the same time however, don't overdo it on going fast down the backstretch, 1 year, the track marshalls were clocking EVERYBODY in all of the clubs & several peeps got "dinged".... Heh, after all, it's "supposed" to be a parade lap..
I personally was taking it easy going through the turns & not going all out, like I would in the MKII Redpra... The inherent understeer problem that the MKI has, made me take the turns a bit more cautiously, because I didn't want to do any off-road infield excursions, because the car keeps wanting to go straight ahead. And of course, the 5ME Automagic only accelerates so fast.. :? (I need to feed the hamsters some more caffiene bars next time...)
Hope this answers your questions.
