Is the Brullen high-flow catalytic converter a ceramic core or metallic core?

Ever since installing the Brullen exhaust 3+ years ago I’ve never seen a directional arrow stamped anywhere on the body of the cat. This weekend I had to remove it (again) to repair the heat shield which had popped at the weld. Lo and behold, under the heat shield was an arrow. Wouldn’t you know it, I had the thing installed backwards according to the arrow.

The ceramic core is directional and should be installed according to the arrow. A metallic spiral core seem to be universal. What’s the difference of internal appearance between the two – ceramic and metallic? What’s the performance loss if it is installed opposite of the directional arrow?

Directionally challenged.
