I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am. The passlock sensor has gone bad and it'll cost around $400 to replace it. Does anybody know if it can be bypassed?

Why would you ask on a toyota forum? You would have at least a chance of an answer if you were on the right forum.

At least it's a start. Good luck!

Make sure it is passlock and not vats. Does your key have a chip in the center of the key (not in the handle but the metal part of the key itself) If it does then you have vats and all you do is measure with an ohmeter measure the resistance (in ohms) and and get a matching resistor from radioshack. There is a yellow sheathed wire running from the key cylinder with two wires in it. cut it in half and on the firewall side, not the key cylinder side connect the two wires using the resistor. Security bypassed. If it is passlock 1 then go to a local sounshop and buy a passlock1 bypass module for a remote start. The directions are in it for hooking it up and instead of running the power supply to a remote start, connect it to a constant twelve volts so that it is continuously functioning to bypass said system. The modules are typically 50.00
