I just picked up a Cobra CB (for the right price of free) and was wondering what peoples thought would be on a good place to hid an antenna. I'm trying to avoid the obvious giant antenna sticking out of the car, so what is out there for low profile antenna placement? Anyone else have a CB in there MKII? If so, how do you have it set up?

Dude, gota go with the Frances and Mazer 9ft whip on the hood!

I was into that back in the day. I still have an HR2510 and a RCI 2950 in the garage.

I dont think you would get more than a mile or so of reception/transmision if the antenna is hidden. It is a line of sight thing. The higher the better.

You can probably still get the Cobra magnamount 14" metal antenna but those things are only good for 3 or so miles and cant be tuned.

I actually had a Cobra 148 and a 9ft whip on an 80 celica. Worked great but looked like crap.

If you really want it hidden then try getting a small one and stand it up in the back. Build a small base for it and cut a hole in the carpet and run it down the center of your spare tire or something. Ground it good.

For the absolute best in concealment go with one of the sticky window antaneas. Primarily used for cell phones, but they do make them for CB's too. This will give you crap for range, but no one will know that you have a CB in your car unless they can actually see the unit.

Get a 2-3 foot whip antenna and mount in along the inside of the hatch lid, wont be great for range but it will be better than a class mount sticky one. On my 4runner I've got a cell phone style antenna and I get crap for range and horrible static. When you rout the antenna wire make sure you keep it away from the rest of your electrics or you'll get interfearance. If you can get shielding wrap stuff (Radio-shaft used to sell it) wrap your antenna wire in that, it will help ALOT.
