ok in my '85 6m, i am having bad hesitation at all times. the timing i am pretty dang sure that it is dead on. i have screwed with everything and the only thing that is left is the TPS. my question is can you convert the 4 wire TPS over to the 3 wire TPS without replacing the entire harness (i am quite sure my plug is the culprit). is there any way i can just use a 3 wire plug and not use one of the wires that are on the 4 wire harness????

yes it is hooked up but there has to be a problem with the contacts. if i wiggle the plug around the idle will drop for a sec. then raise back up (2100rpm) and if i unplug it all together there is no difference in the idle. so to answer your question pretty much "no" it isn't hooked up.

Make sure that the TPS is within spec, and does not need adjusted (procedure is in the TSRM). It is also not hard to replace the plug, a large majority of cars used the same style plug, just go find one at a j/y.
