When I bought my 84 the dash lights didn't work.
Finally I got un-lazy and did something about it!
Basically the dash lights rheostat was unplugged.
Here is a mini-write up on what I did.
Unscrew the bottom cover.
Unbolt the top cover.
Pull off the knob and pry the square out with a screw driver.
Pry with a screw driver again.
Plug in the rheostat.

Bolt in the top cover.
Screw in the bottom cover.
It's going to be very nice having dash lights when I go to school at 5 in the morning! :thumbsup:
