Dash Vent Solution / Replacement

Hi All, Happy Easter!

I wanted to ask if anyone has found a solution or replacement for the front dash vents. I understand the top defroster vents have been reproduced via 3D printing but of course my front vents are falling apart at the seams 😂. I’m trying to clean my Supra up with the end goal of paint so part of that was getting a dash cap, but I’ve been waiting to install due to my unfortunate vent debacle.

I suppose if someone has extra vents for some peculiar reason hit me up or an intact dash….

Thanks guys!

Especially in BLUE!
It'd be wicked if we cud get some made up with a "Group Buy" ...

Esp as each yr goes by... the demand is only going to increase for "Un-Obtain-ium" parts ...like vents

Cheers
I was lucky as my main vents were okay. I did the 3D defroster vents and dashcap (which I cut so it didn’t go down over the vents) and it looks great.

For those main vents…if it’s just to get it looking okay and you can’t find any of those (I know they are really hard to find,) you could cover them in the same / similar material your speakers are covered in. If you don’t cut the dashcap it would wrap down around them as well making a fairly clean albeit not OEM look.

And whatever you do with the dashcap take your time and do some trimming on the install. I’ve done a few. My 85 4Runner one was a snap but this one on the Supra was TIGHT and even with cutting the wrap around section off, I cracked it slightly in one small spot. The way the instrument panel protrudes on our MKII’s makes it difficult. But once in they look great and most don’t even notice it’s a cap.

Appreciate it, I was able to obtain a set of vents for a great price and I plan to use your previous advice when I move towards installing the dash cap. Slow and smooth will be the plan 😂

I haven't tried it myself... but some ppl have been able to change to proper colour by using some kind of special Spray Paint ... & I got the impression that it looks reasonably decent...

Don't have time ATM ... to do a search for the Product(s) / Process

So if anyone can do the search & post here.. that'd b great

Cheers
SEM 15043 Shadow blue.
SEM 15243 Satin black.
SEM 15063 Burgundy (match to be confirmed)

Unfortunatly, no direct match for terra cotta.

SEM paints are quite arguably the best for interior plastic parts. I've been using it for decades on both the supra and the '87 xtra cab truck, the parts sprayed still look fantastic.

Thnx Jocelyn... is there a specific Brand and/or Specialty type of Paint... OF that Brand ??

Defintely info/Stuff ... to put in my "Supra File" ...that I am compiling & organizing... (to the point where I hope to be able to do Sorts/searches... for various issues/topics/workarounds etc )

Cheers
Thanks FH!
The only thing not mentionned so far that I've read before while doing research is about the importante of the primer / surface prep recommemded : SEM 38344.

Yes, that should be used to remove the oils and other contaminants from vinyl parts, and it also says it temporarily softens the vinyl for better adhesion of the paint. I normally just use an adhesive remover (Orange Peel), then wipe down with Isopropyl alcohol to remove anything left over, but this prep would probably work a bit better and would be much cheaper too.

FYI, SEM's prep also comes in a spray form too!
If you want vents that are 3D printed, I suppose I could model some up that are stationary. Heck, if you wanted some logo (like the Supra dragon) I could add that as well. I can print in ABS reliably and carbon-fiber reinforced polycarbonate. The CFPC is only available in black though.
