Im gonna kill 2 birds with one stone on this one. First...where in the world can I find a hitch for my 85 Supra. All I have found are for 86 and on. Even looked up a celica hitch. the late 70's poped up and then 86+. Funny thing is I need it to tow my Firebird to my new house. It is already hooked up with a tow bar and would be economically better than pulling the Supra with the Firebird. I have manufactured some brackets and fastend a tow bar on the firebird so there will be no weight ON the bumper of the supra. The only way I would be putting the full weight of the car is if I manage to back the Firebird off a cliff...and that isnt going to happen. If anyone has one they could part with....please do contact me at [email protected] . Next question would be...My mkII is badged "Handling by Lotus" I do know who Lotus is and figured the badge was a sweet thing to be showing off. My question is are such badged cars rare? I had a parts car and its suspension or drivetrain didnt look any different than this one.

Wow, I haven't heard of that badging before. That's cool and you should be proud to show it off. Toyota and Lotus worked together designing the Supra. There is a Lotus sports car that has the Supra wheels and door handles, along with the same suspension and brakes.

I have a bumper hitch on my Supra, that I took off of my 85 parts car. It looks like a generic bumper hitch used on station wagons and sedans from the 80's. You could probably find one in a junkyard. Just be sure to bolt it directly to your rear steel bumper, and make sure your bumper is solid before attempting it. I don't know if it's strong enough to tow a car; it's mostly for light trailers around 1500 pounds or so.

TMJay, Supras are only designed to tow 1000-2000 pounds per the owners manual.

If I'm reading your question correctly you want to tow your Firebird with your Supra?? The Supra frame, brakes, etc are not designed to tow that much weight, and the tow hitches for Supras are not rated for that much weight as well.

I would rent a 3/4 ton truck with a dolly to tow the Firebird.

Well...I decided to pull the bumper off my car and took the steel part of the bumper off of a parts car. I bolted a large piece of 1/2" angle iron to it and fastened a 2" ball to it. It worked wonderfully. The 4 wheel disc brakes had no problem braking either. The little Supra pulled a LOADED 84 firebird from Wyoming to Indiana with just 1 problem...the wife isnt totally comfortable driving a stick. Im going to have to replace my clutch in a little while. Im sure if I were driving it, the clutch would still be in excellent shape. Gotta love them little Supras.

Someone took that badge of an AW11 MR2 and put it on your Supra.
I would think off an Isuzu Impulse, particularly if it's the 1/2" x 2" green one. Did the MR2 ever have a Lotus badge and I've just never seen it, or were you thinking of the Impulse? And technically, all MKII Supras can make this claim, although none came with a badge so far as I know.

No trailer. I Fabricated some bracketry and fastend a tow bar to the front end of the Firebird. Was no tongue weight, just pull weight. Was an interesting drive. We hit a blizard on the way here. When you are pulling a car that outwieghs you, you run across several problems....like when you go to get gas and the ground is covered in snow and ice, the rear car has a tendency to push the back of the tow car. That took some skill to overcome. The next problem is navigating inclines from a standstill...such as pulling out of the gas station. Posi in 2nd does a good job of cutting through the ice and snow to find traction, but it takes time. Regardless, everything made it in one piece. We passed more accidents than I could keep track of. People sliding off the road, over embankments...it was a mess. I can brag about my wifes driving ability. I often do. I was the one who had to take the rig off the interstate to fuel it though. She refused.

I did a lot of searching here lately and just bought a Curt 11227 hitch. I have pics I found of a hitch that looks very similar to this on a Mk2. I will post pics once I get around to mounting it etc.., but wanted to post this part number in case it helps others.
