Ok so I just inspected my 83 on a lift and apparently the previous owner stripped the thread for the plug on the cover and did a horrible job of tapping it then decided to use a double o ring and a compressing bolt to hold it in place. Long story short I’m in need of a new diff cover. If anyone has a rear diff cover for sale that would be very helpful or if there are any sites to buy some!

Idk why this went over my head but do you guys use a gasket or rtv? I really can’t find any gaskets so would using rtv be fine?

Toyota FIPG, Hondabond, RTV, or literally ANYTHING that says "100%" silicone will work fine.

I would only recommend high quality formagasket.
One designed to be on contact with oils.
OE gasket makers are the best.

Don't just buy any random parts store RTV.

One of the recent differentials I tore down used some of the cheap blue RTV on the rear cover.
It essentially fell off when I took the bolts off.
Usually a punch and hammer is required to break free that seal.
