I have heard that the later manifolds flow better and are less prone to cracking. Can anyone confirm this? And if so is there "official" info backing this up (Toyota specs, etc.?) or just speculation?

Thanks,

Well, if you were to set both down side by side you would notice a difference. The 89+ is beefier with ribbed runners and the runners them selves are slightly larger. The 87 only has 1 ribbed runner on #4, i think.

I'm not 100% positive about the flow but comon sense would dictate that there is a reason for everything those Toyota Neers do. :)

There also seems to be a differnce in sound. The 89+ has much more of a header like burble while the 87 sounds bland. One instance of that is Don C.'s 84 with a 89+ motor, crush bent exhaust with stock elbow and flex pipe sounds better than my 87 ported head, manifold, elbow and 3" mandrel bent exhaust. Go figure.
