I've adjusted mine a few times and it doesn't seem to do anything for idle, but does change the performance a bit for a little while.

I'm wondering if the computer eventually evens out the air/fuel mixture, regardless of the screw setting...

All it is is an air bypass, if the computer can it will re adjust the idle air motor to 650rpm. If for some reason your car wont idle at 650 rpm then you can mess with the AFM bypass and see if you can get it to idle.

The bypass air screw (idle speed adjust) on the TB adjusts the amount of air that gets bypassed around the throttle plate. The bypass air screw on the AFM (idle mixture adjust) adjusts how much air entering the engine is unmetered by the AFM.

I thought the AFM on the 82s are the only ones that could be adjusted?

did I miss the boat?
