I'm new here...been a member of SF for quite some time, though. I've posted a thread there about dropping a 7m-GTE into my 84 P-Type, but keeping the 5m wiring, sensors, ECU, etc. Basic idea is as follows...

What I think I might do is this...I can get a JDM 7m-GTE long blcok (manifolds, injectors, accessories, turbo, etc.) for $1030+shipping from www.enginewholesalers.com . Drop the 7m-GTE into my MKII and hook up all the 5m sensors and electrics I need to (can GTE injectors work with the 5m ECU?). By this time I should have a couple VG30DETT intercoolers lying around, I can utilyze one or both of those along side a MKIV style plenum (custom sheetmetal, though). Use a piggyback fuel controller amongst a few other gadgets and see if it'll work. If it doesn't...stand-alone.
^I could have sworn I had a post somewhere that was more in depth than that but I can't find it...but that's the jist of it...

*runs off to scower new forum for info...

Oh yeah! You're all fucked now!! Mwahahahhahahhahhahaahhhaahhaa!

I figured it'd be a lil more complicated than that but I wanna try to get the 7m-GTE to work using as much of the 5m electrical system as possible. There are a couple things that I can see working fine, then a couple things that will not. Like the CAS, that won't work...I'll need the 5m or a 7m dizzy (is there a difference?). Power steering pump also will not work and I'll either have to mod it, use the 5m pump, or ditch power steering (which I have NO problem with). There's a number of things that I realize wil give problems but there's a lot I'm missing, too. That's what I need help with.

Some of you have turbo'ed 5m's...how do you set up the air sensor for boost?

AIC is a new one on me...

A RRFPR was planned for, but I was hoping that maybe the stock 7m-GTE FPR would sufice with the GTE injectors. Will it not?

S-AFC was decided a MUST from the beginning.

Seriuosly dude... a 7M on 5M electronics isn;t the best idea. the 5M ECU is set up for an N/A motor, and is tuned pretty close to the capacity that the 5M has... you add .2 liters of displacement, and add forced induction, not to mention many of the sensors have different outputs... and your looking at a logistical nightmare and a total pain in the sack to troubleshoot. This route has been done before.. and to quote the person "I wish I had just done it the right way." If you want a 3.0 liter turbo, and are bent on stickin with the 5M electronics.. get a 6M.

So how do people turbo the 5m without too much trouble? They use the stock 5m ECU and run 9lbs easily. The sensor outputs aren't a problem. I can figure those out and install resistors and such where needed, also some of the 5m sensors will fit the 7m block and manifolds without problems...in that case I'll use the 5m sensors.

I'm suddenly confused...my MKII has a twin cam engine and it's got 3 liter badging... :?:

Check the side of your block(right side near front) I bet it says 6m and someone has already dropped a 6m into it.

Are 5m's single cammed or dual cammed? What's in my MKI?...it's SOHC. I could have sworn I knew all of this but damn...after reading a number of other things here I'm pretty confused...I can't wait to get home in the morning so Ican double check all this stuff...

Take a peek at the CelicaSupra.com FAQ section: http://www.celicasupra.com/recipes.htm

A 5MGE is a 2.8 liter, dual overhead cam engine, the 6MGE is a Japan market engine (found in the Crown sedan and a few other vehicles)...and it's a 3.0 liter, dual overhead cam just like the 5M.

Look on the side of your block for this:

Hey. Forget about running a complete 7mgte under 5m electronics. There are many things that don't work, even the stock 7mgte injectors won't work as is with the 5m electronics. Remember, the head is completely different. Really, one of the mk2s biggest faults is its efi system. It works ok stock but it comes with a stupidly restrictive afm thats a PITA to get rid of, and there is no aftermarket tunning available for the ecu. No replacement chips, no rom burnging nothing, but there is that stuff for the 7m ecus. Now having said that, a 7mgte instill is alot more work then a 5/6mgte install due pretty much entirely to the wiring. Another option that is a better route if you dead set on avoiding the wiring is to use a 7mgte bottom with a 5m head, then you get a turbo spec bottom with your 5m electronics. You will have to buy new pistons however. But really, just do it right and go 7m all the way. There are people out there you can pay to make the harness for you, then its all plug and play and no painful and potentially dangerous tuning.

You have links to anyone who manufactures the harnesses?

I'm pretty proficient at wiring...I've already constructed a sim-1jz/MA70 harness with success so I know I can do it...I just don't want to. My biggest concern is wiring the guages and everything in to run off the 7m-GTE harnes.
