i would do both, i'm taking my block to the machine shop today to get all cleaned out and checked and new bearings, hopefully not rods, but we'll see i've had this block sitting for a month in my garage kinda wish i was motivated earlier.
Yes, if it was a rod knock then you need to have the rods checked as well. I just rebuilt a motor that had #5 knocking and not only was the crank out of round but the rod too as the bearing had disintegrated and allowed it to wollow out.
