I am putting in my new fuel pump this weekend and think I may clean my gas tank while I have it down. Anything I should do/watch for while its out?

I was waiting for someone to post an intelligent reply, but since no one has stepped up, I will go ahead and jump in anyway.

The main things that I can think of are:

Check body for rust behind gas tank.

Check tank straps and brackets for rust.

Inspect/replace fuel supply lines

and,

Don't smoke while working on the tank! :lol:

get ready to down and dirty when i took out my fuel tank there was probably like two inches of dirt,mud,dust, and sand on to of the gas tank.
Now the question is how did so much dirt get up there?????beats me :?

Is tank removal/install a pain or relatively straight forward? I remember when I did the tank on my last car it was pretty hard to line back up when installing. The reason I ask, I suspect a hole in the tank. If I put in more than $10, everytime I corner I smell gas. I cant see anything by looking while it is on, so I was going to pull it off. Also, let me know how yours goes and if there is anything I should watch for. Thanks!
