Hey guys, just thought i'd ask for some input on where a good place would be to get a 6mge. Is it worth it to buy from rabid chimp? That's a pretty expensive engine compared to the 600-750 range i've seen elsewhere. I did a search and didn't see much, so sorry if this is a repost.

I would seriously consider a Chimp 6mge if shipping costs arent a factor. Aaron is a long time MK2 owner and list member who is held in high regard by many of us.

It would be time consuming to re-seal a 6M yourself and some 6Ms need to reuse your 5M pan and oil pump driveshaft.

Get it from the CHIMP! I did. Good price for the service and the new seals installed. You will have to, however, swap your Pan and pickup. That's no biggie as you'll have both engines out at the same time anyway. Paying that extra from Rabid Chimp is also getting your engine visually insected by a guy who actually cares and will do what he can to help you out. As opposed to the $700 places that will just sell you the engine and be done with you.

Yep CHimp man Aaron is awesome, i got my 6M from him and i was very happy, my mechanic told me that i would have to do the seal and all the bs, but when he saw the engine he was like nice the guy who sold it to you did that shit already and i was like yeah, i also got a couple more things from him, definetly wait till you have the money its way better than just buying it from one of those importer guys and they just don't care if it works or not.

my mechanic charge me 650, and then i also had them do the 88 supra alternator swap, and new belts, and new powersteering pump with new rack and pinion, and also told them not to put the egr from my 5m into my new 6m, they also put in my new ACT stage one clutch, and resurfaced my flywheel in the end i ended up paying 1050, for the whole installation

I'm getting one tomorrow from Rising Sun Engines -- what is this about the oil pan and oil pump? I thought the EGR was the only thing I needed to swap over from my 5m... The oil pan currently has a large hole in it from the #6 rod...

Will the EGR bolt up to the 6m head? My 5m head is pretty much fubared too. If so, then I might as well wait for them to get a 5m engine in stock (was going to get a 5m, but they were out)

The 6M pan is center sump. The 5M pan is front sump. You have to swap the pan and the pump. The EGR will bolt on to the 6M head no prob. The 6M just has a couple block off plates. I think you may have to reuse the 5M intake to use the EGR. If your TPS sensor is the rectangle-style you'll need to use the 5M throttle body too.

no need for egr down here in texas ;) , but you have to switch the pump too?? that sux if the chimps comes with a new pump!

so if i don't need the egr, then all i have to swap is the pan and pump correct?

also, what externals come with the chimps? tb, intake plenum? some of the other guys with used engines didn't come with some externals.

"You will use the manifolds, fuel system, ignition system, etc. from your old engine. All of the external components on a motor from Japan are different from those in the U.S., so we remove them to make your installation easier. "

they just say that because their engines either dont have them from japan, or they want to sell them separately.

most of the japanese components will work fine... center sump oil pan wont... intake and exhaust will

It doesn't come with a new pump. It states, "...new oil pump driveshaft seal..."

I tried to use just the pick-up but that won't work. So 5M pump and pan. Externals with Rabid Chimp's 6M: no exhaust manifold (get headers!!!), you get the intake and as it states on his site a new water pump. No AC cause it wouln't work anyway(bolt on yer old stuff).

Damn I wish I had read this thread this morning... I got the 6m ge and discovered the pan will not fit. The pickup screen has 5 small bolts that holds it on, and the 5m's will fit on the 6m. The 6m's pump has a larger diameter tube running over the crankshaft so I left that on.

unfortunately the rod tore a hole in my original pan, so I'm trying to track down another 5m pan.

But how did the 6m fit in the japanese mk2 with this sump? When I first saw it, I assumed it must have come from another car -- but even if the mk2 was RHD I don't see how this engine would fit...

6Ms never came in the Mk2 anywhere in the world. They came in Crowns and Limos, hence the different pan.

not really, toyota had made several 6 cylinder limos in japan, they didn't have v8's and wanted more fuel efficient limos...they now have a v6 hybrid/electric vehicle.
