Just put your engine at TDC (align marks on cam gears with rear cover). Note the position of the #1 lead on the dist. cap and mark it on the distributor body. Put the distributor in so that the rotor is pointing at the #1. It will actually point a little bit before #1 so that you have the proper adjustment for advancement (it's very little).
