Heating Problems

i was driving my car today and it started heating up so i pulled over and stopped the car thinking i just got a BHG. the Temp fluctuated up and down from almost reaching red to normal operating temp. i have changed the thermastat but no difference at all

anyone have any advice

Is it a big sweeping change in the temp guage needle???

Either you have a really big air bubble in the coolant system (you need to get the air out), or your temperature gauge sending unit is crapping out. The sending unit is located on the engine block behind the distributor. Kind of hard to see & access, unless you take the distributor cap off.
