help! ignition switch stuck in "START" mode

Hi there. I took out my ignition switch while doing some work on my steering column. I was checking something on it and turned it to "START" mode while it was out of the car. It's now stuck in that mode and I can't get it to go back to LOCK, ACC, or ON. I need it in one of those modes to put it back in. Does anybody know how to get it back? Thank you.

It's been quite a while since ive had a ignition switch out, isn't there a small release bearing that you have to push to get the key to turn?

a few pictures might help us figure it out...
