Guys and Gals, need some tech assistance with finding out why the horns are not working on the 86.

I've checked the haz/horn fuse under the hood, have power to the horn button on the steering wheel. No power to the horns under the bumper, but I did check one horn and it works off the car.

Is there a circuit breaker not listed in the TSRM??

Any assistance is appreciated!!

There should be no power to the horn button on the steering wheel. It is just a grounding point. To make a complete circuit for the horns. The power comes in right off the haz/horn fuse and goes directly to the horns. If you don't have power there. either the fuse is bad. Or there is a broken wire between the fuse and the horns. Dose your hazard lights work? If they work. Then more than likely there's a wiring problem. Going to the horns. Shouldn't be too hard to trace the wire. Coming from the fuse box to the horns. When I can't find a electrical wiring problem. And I'm in a hurry. I just run a new wire. Solves the problem everytime.

It might be the contact plate is worn in the steering wheel. This is a slipring. To test, take off the plastic cover that you push on. Short (with a wire or screwdriver) between the slipring and the post, and if your horn blows, you've found the problem.

Solutions inclulde wedging out the contact area a little, and dielectric grease.

also, sometimes if you hold the horn button down and turn your steering wheel, you'll get a honk or two out of it. This will tell you if the contact plate is bad or if that spring that touches the plate is either dirty (very common) or needs a bit of grease.
Haven't done it on my Supra, but on the truck, I take q-tips dipped in alcohol and polish the contact plate up, then add dielectric grease (don't use regular grease!!!). Problem solved for a few more years, till it gets dirty again!
