i checked the VIN plate on my 82 and it says i have a 3.73 rear end but i wanna be sure it hasn't been replaced. so how can i go about checking if its a 3.73 or not? how many teath are on the gear?

Pull the cover,count the teeth on the big gear.Then count the teeth on the little gear,Divide small number into big number.Then you tell us what gear ratio you have :p :wink:

if you dont want to pull it, get an accurate speed reading, then find one of those little calculators and go by rpm, tire size and speed.

Get under the car and see how many turns of the driveshaft it takes to turn the side shafts one full turn. It should be ~3 3/4s turns for a 3.73.
