I am thinking of buying a hydraulic cart to work on a 5M-GE and I need to know what the weight of the engine without transmission is.

I've looked all over the site and can't find this.

Anyone who has engine swapped ever weighed one?

Thanks,

Dale

dean anderson has put together a great list...

http://www3.sympatico.ca/dean.anderson4/weights.html

hes got an estimated weight on there, and as soon as i pull my engine, ill weigh it for you :)
thats the great thing about living so close to the edge of town and owning a pickup...
toss something in, drive over the truck scales, remove it, drive back over the scales.
subtract the difference, and add a little for the gasoline you burnt, and voila... got your engine weight. :)

Probably mid to high 500 lb range with the accesories bolted up minus trannsmission. It might even break into the low 600s. How come you are going with a cart? An engine stand makes it much easier to work on an engine. Usually much cheaper too.

Well, I've got an engine stand and a cherry picker, but at times, storing the engine and rolling it around would be easier on a cart. The one I'm thinking of has a hydraulic lift so you can jack it up quite high or drop it down depending on what you're working on.

Besides, I have another block on the engine stand

The cart doesn't have a cradle, but it should be easy to make one up that bolts to the engine mounts.

It has a lift capacity of 600 lbs.

Viking,

Thank you. The engine I am going to work on should be here tomorrow, and I really needed that cart to haul it around the garage.

I went and got one, but kept thinking, great, I'll put the engine on it, and it'll go right through the bottom of it.

btw, the hydraulic cart was sold out, I got non-hydraulic with a max capacity of 600 lbs.
