Ok, I don't know if this has ever been covered or not, much less do I know how to search for it. I heard from a guy who works at a Toyota dealership near my work that if you open the top of the mass air flow sensor, and turn some dial counterclockwise 3 or 4 clicks, then seal it back up, that it'll add some 30hp. Anyone ever heard of this being done? Thanks!

AFM

Hey I just did that yesterday to my neighbors 84 Ptype. Use a razor to cut the edge into the silicone. And mark the black teeth w/white out in front of the + screw. And like on Deans web page turn it counterclock wise 2-4 clicks. Then retighten the + screw and re-seal w/ some silicone.

How much does it add? Approximately even. Is 30hp reasonable? I'm looking into ideas for when my Supra is running, if you read my post titled 'Here's my story' you'll understand...

Yes, it's the AFM mod & it has been covered here before...

http://www.afn.org/~wjh/tsc/supra/afmtune/afmtune.htm

Mass Air Flow sensor??? What's this guy smoking???? Our MKII's don't have MAF sensors, we have Air Flow Meters.

AND 30HP??????????? Not on our MKII's!!!!! Or any other Toyota that I know of!!!!

See the link above. Depending on which way your are turning the wheel, you're either richening up the Air/Fuel mixture, or leaning it out. Your HP results will vary, but not 30hp worth.

yeah don't let go

Yeah it slipped a little on me yesterday doin it :x just a few teeth. And realized why you should mark it w/some white out :) that really saved me. The black teeth wants to go counterclockwise so be carefull.

We went and test drove it after and noticed just a little bit better throttle response up here in CO w/this high elevation we have.

Aaron answered that for you already. Maybe 3 or 4 HP.

A 5 HP gain is usually considered enough for a typical Mk2 driver to feel a difference by the "seat-of-the-pants" meter.

Only do this mod if you've done other breathing mods like intake and exhaust. After doing the mod, drive a while and then check your spark plugs to see if you're running too rich or too lean and adjust if needed. 2 or 3 clicks counterclockwise is probably right for a street-driven Mk2 with intake and exhaust done. You might want to add another one or two clicks if you've put on headers, or done a P&P. Again, read your plugs and adjust accordingly.

Somehow Aaron and myself seemed to post very close in time to each other, and when I posted, the question was not answered. Other than that, you're saying that because I got stock everything this would not be a good idea? and also for like 3-4hp, I'll wait till I get exhaust and whatnot, and go from there. Thanks guys!
