The joy of living in Alberta - I had to go out in the snow and put on the "L" type rims and snow tires. Winning a butt ugly rim contest with this setup would be easy but when you need rims and tires and only have a few $'s one can't be choosey so I have some solid disc (with rivets believe it or not) rims and Woosung tires - please don't ask me wtf is a woosung cause all I can say is its a Korean Michelin rip off and costs less than $75cdn each. Whole rig cost me less than $500 and the Michelin summer tires in the 225/60-14 are just plain frightening in the snow.

I much prefer my Texas summers 110 in the shade than any northern winters. When the temps dip to freezing, I actually resemble the Michelin man in my many layers. Nice thing about snow here tho is it happens so rarely and nobody is equipped to drive on it so we all just stay home and play in it. If you decide you get sick of it about mid-January, you know where to come for a vacation - temps'll be from mid-30s at night to upper 50s mabe into the low 70s if winds out of the south. 8)

CALI is a mess, some of my friends from college started a fire and burned 20 acres this weekend in Nor CAL. I was like, WTF?? he lost mad shit such as an ATV, and Dirtbike.
art... my car hates this crap...
ive got no snow tires, so it should be fun driving on bald 245s until friday :S

me thinks ill be taking the bus to work.
SNOW HAHAHAHA

Grew up in Edmonchuk....
Now I look outside an the sun is shining, and its about +5C
life is tuff....

Ken :p
dayum, it snowed an entire foot at my house already; maybe i should look into getting winter tires  i still have my grippy Pacemark M+S 225's, but i am certaintly NOT looking forward to driving into town tomorrow. my road is an icy biatch :?

now here's a question. do the LSD's on our cars work well in the snow and on ice? my Mk2 has one, i'm just wondering. i've only had my driver's license for ~15 months, and i haven't driven a RWD car in the snow before, only my mom's FWD Montana and 4WD Cherokee
so far mines alright, it grips well, and its controllable.

DO take it to a parking lot and fool around
learn how it handles the snow and ice!

practice a lot
i second what the other guy said. go find an empty parking lot and practice some quick stops and avaiding techniques. i know it saved me an accident when i spun my moms corolla around on an offramp a few years ago 8)
I'm just glad i'm putting my supra to sleep this weekend. They'll be snow on the ground here soon
Snowwwww

Up here we usually get massive dumps of snow (Canada 24hr record just 5k south of town)

My Supra is actually one of the better cars I've had for snow, provided you have proper tires on it. A posi will kick out the rear more easily than a single-spin, but it is also much more predictable, and therefore controllable.

HTH
YMMV
Ken
this post is to reaffirm my position that i absolutely HATE snow. today, i wiped about a foot of the white stuff off the Poopra (as i affectionately call her now); and like a complete dumbass, i turned on the wipers without thinking. the blades were still stuck rigid to the windshield -- end result? loud snapping noise, and a pair of non-functional wipers.  also, the alternator started to really sh*t out on me today; the car hardly started up this afternoon (in -10*C weather), and after work, the voltage dipped down real low when i was driving after dark. :? there's so many things wrong with the Poopra now -- what the hell is going to happen next??
your going to find a rustbucket $200 cressida for winter???

lol, im glad ive got my winter beater, sure does save me peace of mind.
why do i need a rustbucket Crassydoo when i have a rustbucket Poopra??  trust me, the Supra is NOT in the best of shape; it was given to me without me seeing it first, bah. :?
lol...man snow already up there? It 's been tshirt whaether for the last week down here in VA! I'm looking at buying a rustbucket Ford Bronco or REAL old Toyota 4runner for winter. REASON: My MKII has NO LSD :-( Once I get it on the road it goes ok, except for freakin sliding all over the place, but thats fun when you know what you're doing. My problem is the damn thing will get stuck in a parking spot with like 11/2 inch of snow! One wheel slips...and call it a day. Plus, I just broke up with my girlfriend so now there's no one to Push! (Cause she sure as hell wasn't drivin my baby!)
LOL. Good luck up there this winter guys, be careful. Brian
I don't mind the snow it's the salt and sand I hate. Turns every car from gem to rust bucket.

Let it snow Supras in the garage and I've got my Tacoma 4X4.
87 4Runner - 22RE for me.
Its almost as bad in the slick

Lots of Alberta guys on here. My sister-in-law and her family live in Crows Nest Pass, over by Turtle Mountain I think it is. Haven't been there yet, but the pictures are awesome! She said there was 3 feet of snow there now. BURRR. I spent a winter with my wife and her family in Ottawa Ont. one year. It's a completely different world compared to down here in South Carolina, that's for sure. Hope you guys dont have too much trouble with it. :)

Scotty
Good luck guys. I drove my '84 through 1 winter with Michelin Arctic Alpins on l-type wheels, it did great. We have snow in the forecast for Michigan Friday through Monday......I am sure we won't get 3 feet, but it should be fun.
Good luck to ya all in the snow.

I'm still getting used to mine, took it out in heavy rain last night, @#*% that was scary. Its running on 225 tyres that dont seem to like water much! At one point the wheels started spinning @ 80 mph. Never been in such an arse endy car! Great fun when you expect it though

Bring on the snow!!
