I decided to install an SC400 torque converter and tranny. It may be setup better for a lighter car than the LS400 tranny and converter, I'm not sure but it makes sense. I ordered a 36-1 crank trigger from A1A Racing. My vacation is over at the end of the week, progress will slow down but I'm committed.
Yes, an awesome engine. I had a 2jz I was planning on dropping in, but when I lifted the engine/tranny with my tractor boom the front wheels of the tractor came off the ground. I don't blame you guys at all for going 2jz, lots of good reasons to, but I decided I didn't want to add all that extra weight to an already nose heavy car. Good luck with your swap and post a pic when you get it sitting in the car. Kind of funny, until the engine sits in the car you're a dreamer, but when it's in it's the real deal (at least to me).
Congratulations! it always feels good when you get it dropped in and bolted up. there is still a huge amount to be done but its very gratifying.
i dont think the SC is any lighter. i think it might actually be heavier than the LS. SC's are straight up FATTIES! if the MK-III is a pig than the Lexus SC is a Hippopotamus.
Slow but steady. Notice where I have removed the battery box, the battery will go where the rear seat was. The airbox is from a Dodge Intrepid with a K&N filter. I cut a hole in the fenderwell and now I will have a cold air intake. I never cared for the cone filters sucking hot engine air. I have the driveshaft complete and about half of the exhaust system. I'm hooking up everything first then I will build the engine harness for the MegaSquirt. Good stuff.
Just letting you guys know I haven't lost interest. The going has been really slow, work is crazy and I've been ill. I did get the black interior out of my donor car and I'm getting ready to swap it out from the burgundy currently in the car. That may seem like jumping ahead, but I saw evidence of mice in the donor car and I needed to remove the interior asap before winter set in and the mice started building nests. It's all safely inside my shop now. I'll keep up to date on this as much as I can.
This is a beautiful transplant, definitely worthy of the MK2!
You should do some math on the volume of the factory 1UZ intake pipe + air box.
The reason I bring this up is the helmholtz resonator works via proper volume and acoustics, It may be worth you while to fit the factory air box so that you gain maximum horsepower / torque.
The factory engineers do a very good job with the OEM air box / intake tuning on modern cars to generate maximum torque / horsepower with the OEM equipment, and would be sad to see your engine not produce its potential.
