Anyone know why the 5m takes modifications so much better then the 6m and 7m?

I'm turbocharging my 5m and because my car came form the factory with the A340E transmission(88 cressida) so i'm going to stick with it... and i'm too lazy to switch out the electronics lol (anyone know how much that tranny can take?)

i read in another post here about the 7m-gte fuel cut because of the afm and the 5m ecu doesn't use the afm at anything past 88% throttle so i'm not worried about it but should i use a piggyback injector controller w/ the extra injectors or should i use a raising-rate fpr? and brand/model do you recommend.

this is what i have planned for my pretty lil 5m:
-3100cc stroker kit(already purchased)
-overbore to 85.5 i don't know what displacement it'll have after that maybe 3.2
-P&P w/ 3-angle valve job and if i can find the valves a 1mm oversize.
-GUDE cams.
-7600rpm redline.(the gude cams say this is the end of the powerband. only the dyno to 8 grand will tell.)
-much stiffer valve springs to prevent valve float and bounce.
-looking for stainless steel valves but haven't found um yet anyone know where to find them?
-7mgte exhaust, turbo, and intake manifolds.
-intercooler with piping blah blah.
-i want to place my Apexi dry element cone filter right at the grille of the car so i pull in outside air not engine bay air and i plan on insulating ALL intake piping in the engine bay.
-aux oil and auto fluid coolers.
-blah blah blah all that jazz
-new halfshafts and u-joints lol.
-australian cressida automatic ecu(don't have revv limiters.)

i'd say i'm off to an okay start.

i'm not worried about the cost of machining i'm getting it done for free. the college professor that teaches the machining class is going to do the work for free as an example for his classes and promises me if he messes it up or it gets messed up the school will replace it for free.

Do you realize the 6m is almost identical to the 5m?? The 5m doesn't take mods better than the 7m and it will never take modding better than the 7m.

The 7mgte head & electronics are superior in every way to the 5m.

Fuel cut is there for a reason and it can easily be bypassed with a FCD (~$100) or Lexus AFM ($150). Most 5mgtes don't even run enough boost to hit what would be the7mgte fuel cut @ 11.8psi.

You left out SDS and a hotter aftermarket ignition.:)
Good luck getting 7600rpm if your gonna stroke it. Even with massive head work, you might get it to rev that high but the power will have long dropped off. Stroking really isn't even nessary when you have boost.
i have the hotter spark. my new ignition coil eats up distributor caps almost as fast as it eats up platinum plugs and my cheap sparkplug wires can be seen discharging to the engine lol it looks cool! i tried copper plugs but the contacts were worn after about a week and a half(when i had to replace the dist. cap again)

what's SDS?

i know i'm leaving stuff out but that's okay she isn't being built yet lol. you really dont think the head will move enough air to produce any power at 7600? stroked? what about a [email protected]? i'm looking more for highrevving then mega power. with highrevving i can kinda make up for having less power by staying in 1st til 60 and 2nd til 89(did the math with my current gearing)

so i'd be better off doing the highrevving with a non-stroked engine?

why everywhere i read does it say a 5m with the same mods as a 7m(turbo yadda yadda) outrun the 7m. toysport says it too.
Properly set-up, a 5MG Turbocharged easily outrun 7MGTs similarly equipped with upgrades (the bodies were considerably lighter and the engines responded better- pound for pound of boost.
the way i say it makes it sound differently then i think it's supposed to. i still don't know what i'm going to do in the end. the engine when i get the 3.1L stroker in there should produce 250HP with nothing further according to toysport.

For all-out power Turbo charging is the way to go. Mandatory forged pistons will allow the engine to see and survive boost levels higher than the 7MGTE. An advantage is that the valves are bigger (although less in number) which will survive the heat better than the smaller valves of the 7MGTE (24 valves).
that is another reason i'm sticking with a 5m/6m

how much difference does twin turbos make over single turbo? i have a freind in south texas that is selling his 7mgte hks twin turbo manifold which i didn't know they made lol.

I can't believe this rumour is still floating around. When's the last time you heard of a 7M melting its valves? Or a 2JZ for that matter? I'm running 20psi through mine, no problems yet! Now show me a stock 5M running 20psi and I'll be impressed...
Stroker's are for domestics...

...although I am ultimately jelous of your rare find.

i'm throwing the stroker in my 5m til summer. it'll be nice to have 250hp instead of what 160? i told that teacher that i'll just be taking a head in to be done and he was fine with it. for the larger displacement should i raise the fuel pressure? i talked to a mechanic about it that's supposed to know about these engines and he said to leave it alone and the ecu will learn a new fuel map and at wot it'll enrichen til it's right...i didn't talk to that mechanic again.

...i've shopped around and did pricing and the best bang for my buck is a 1.5jz-gtte(2jz bottom end with 1jz head in case your wondering.)front cut. if i can't find that i'll just get the 1j. everything will be there in the front cut. if i went with my origional plan i'd be pulling my hair out making a non-torbo engine turbo. thanx anyways guys.
