So what exactly are all the options for our 7.5" lsd?

oem which is 1.5 right? (usually needs to be rebuilt)
Btw anyone know a good place that does that?

tru trac which is a helical type

does trd make a 7.5" 2 way?

welded, and what else?

i'm looking to get something thats going to lock up hard but is also daily-able?
and just trying to make a collective place for all our options.

Thanks

A lot members here run Tru Trac. I've yet to own a performance one so I can't say how it is. But have yet to hear any break, just the ring & pinion that goes out.

Yeah, I've got a Precision Gear Power Brute. It's a clutch type 2-way LSD that I believe was meant for the IFS pickup truck diffs but with they will fit in our car's rear ends also. So far it's been holding up really well, it's a little noisy sometimes when taking tight turns but that's to be expected. Which also means that it's doing it job.

You guys forgot about one of the most attractive options (perf to dollar wise anyways), the Weir Performance stock rebuild kit.

This puppy tripples the lock up surface area of the stock LSD as Toyota didn't see fit to give us the full ability of our LSD out of the box.

Its discussed in this thread, gets interesting a couple pages in when Weir chimes in...

I've never read anything that says specifically what the stock diff is. Games like Forza and GT say our stock cars have a 1.0 LSD which would mean we'd get no locking at all on deceleration into a corner, but I'm not sure if thats correct. Its hard to tell, our cars tend towards oversteer so much already.

After seeing one of my diffs break, I would have to say I agree with the 2 way since it will lock on acc and decel, but I have also heard from a long time ago they are a 1.5 way.

Here's a pic of the lower clutch member in the 7.5" LSD. If you look just before the holes for the spring pockets you can see an angled ramp on each side. The angle is the same on both sides (coast and drive) this makes it a 2way LSD. The AE86 is the same, they are both 2 way.

Thanks for the great info Spence, I know you have dug into the Toyota diffs pretty well and have a ton of knowledge about them.
