I was thinking, that there are a lot of parts that we can swap from a mk III onto our Mk II's.. that perhaps maybe it was time for a thread that listed them all.. so they were in one localized place. Mind you, I realize that with enough work, ANY part can be moved from one car to another..but I am talking about the ones thAt are either a direxct bolt on.. or only require minor mods. So, here go the ones I know.

1) 7M-GE headers
2) Turbo Exhaust Manifold (minor mods needed)
3) CT-26 (Again, some modding needed, along with supporting mods)
4) Alternator (Some Modding to the bracket needed, otherwise direct bolt on)
5) Brake Master Cylinder (Direct bolt on... very minor movement of the lines needed)
6) Brake Booster
7) Fuel Pump
8) Injectors (tho the clips need to be swapped, and in some cases Injector packs bypassed)
9) Head Gaskets

Anyone else add anything? Doesn't even nessacarily have to be from a mk III.. just so long as its direct bolt in, or only minor modding required..

The inside hood release hatch looks the same from what I can tell. You can use the inside cup holders with some work. Shift knob, the entire shifter, the entire engine/tranny , the power window motors are the same I've heard....

edit: The power antenna looks like it would work if you install the mast housing tube from the MkII onto it.

Radiator fan you mean???

It will fit, but you will need to modify your 5MGE fan shroud.. Otherwise it will not fit. I "think" you need to go to the 7M shroud???

Headers will most likely need a modification of the collectors due to them hanging down, or so I hear.

Uhm, remind people that the alternator wont work on 82-83 models, nor will the fuel pump.

Billy,

I'm contemplating putting a higher output alternator in my 83 Supra, but from what I've been reading in other posts...it's not "impossible" but it's a real bitch to do on the 82/83.

I mean, other than the pulley/belt fiasco, what problems am I going to run into? I've searched this, but nobody is really clear on WHY this is such a pain in the ass to put in an 83 model.

From what I've been told, you can use the MkIII alt bracket by modifying it, and there is a diode modification that is necessary to keep the charge light from coming on all the time as well. I've also read that you can change out the pulley from your existing Mk2 alt and put it on the Mk3 unit with no problems.

So, why are you saying it's not possible? Who is right here?

The cupholder inside the armrest can supposedly be adapted to fit in the Mk2 console. Haven't done it myself, but its been mentioned in the past. Although after seeing the MkIII cupholders they are pretty lame.

As far as the alternators go I can't see why you couldn't use the MkIII alt. on an early 5M. Change the crank and water pump pulley and do the diode mod. The only other issue I could see would be the plug which should be easy to find used off a later car if needed. Any of these parts used should be cheap.

MK3 alt in an 83

Stephen-
I've been researching this very question, since I have an 83 too. You really have summarized the issues:

1) You have to use a lower alt bracket from an 84-85 MK2; the 82-83 alt's lower mounting ear fit 'around' the alt bracket, whereas the 84-85 alt's lower mounting ear fits 'inside' the alt bracket.
Look here at an 81-83 alt:

Look here at an 84-85 (3rd pic from the top) alt:
http://www.celicasupra.com/mk3altinstall.html

2) You either must convert your harmonic dampener and water pump pulley to the later multi-rib setup of the 84-85, or you need to take off the 2 V-belt pulley from your old alt and have a machine shop either weld and redrill it, or bore it out (depends on the OD of the old alt's pulley shaft vs the OD of the new alt's pulley shaft - I can't remember). But they are not the same, is the important thing.

3) You would do well to consider the charge light mod.

Harmonic dampener == crankshaft pulley

Harmonic dampener == crankshaft pulley. It is called that because it serves multiple purposes.
1) It drives accessories, like the water pump, power steering, alternator, air conditioning, etc.
2) It damps out harmonic vibrations of the crankshaft as it completes its cycle.
Most engines are built this way.
