If you axle code ends in "3" or "5" then it should be a LSD.

Little OT, but were all MKII's equipped with LSDs? I believe I remember reading that it was only some models but it's hard to find specific technical data on a car this old.

All MkII's have an F series diff, which has a 7.5" crownwheel. LSD's were not standard equipment on all models, but it was an option for all MkII's. As mentioned above you can check the axle code on your build plate to determine if your car was originally fitted with one; 2 = single spinner, 3 = LSD. You won't find 5 (4-pinion LSD) on a MkII, despite what everyone seems to think!

The factory LSD's are the clutch type, and there were a fairly wide range of gear ratios available from 3.5:1 to 4.3:1 depending on year, spec and country of origin.

As for strength, there are lots of quick turbo MkII's getting around with F diffs. Mine has held up to a 400hp 2JZ and several 12 second passes, so that's a pretty good vote of confidence. Of course they're not indestructible - like any diff it will break if abused.

Would one stand about 475hp 480flbs? When I put a new engine in I am going to build a 355sbc mated to a t-56 6-speed trans. Has this been done before? It ought to be neat.

the stock lsd wont hold that kind of tq. look into a truetrac or a powerbrute lsd. as for the chevy v8. im sure its been done, but not sure about with the t56. if you search long enough, im sure youll find pics of a chevy v8 in a supra. there were pics posted on the yahoo group of a mkii that a guy put a v8 in and custom adapted the irs from a vette to it as well. lots of welding involved in that setup.
