well, its been over a year since i updated this thread. i sold the 40mm carbs last year, but then totalled my ls400, and didnt have full coverage and it was my fault so i had to save the cash to put toward another car.

anyway, i recently bought an aluminum flywheel and tilton twin disc clutch for the w58/r154. ill be using a w58 as it is lighter and i doubt ill make enough power to break it. the whole setup together weighs about the same as the stock w58 flywheel does itself. ~18lbs or so. also, the setup only has about 500 miles on it.

i also got a set of aem 2jz adjustable cam gears that have been bored out to fit the 5m cams, so now ill be able to degree in the hks cams when i do final assembly.

and a set of rockers and lifters with 500 miles on them as the ones that came with my ported head were toast.

if the ot keeps up at work i plan to send the cams off soon to be repaired and profiled, then try to find some 45mm carbs.

look what arrived today! got a smokin deal on a ati super damper, new, never used off of craigslist. its for a 7mgte but will still work. ill just have to run the power steering belt off of the water pump only and use a ford crown vic clutch and pulley on the ac compressor.

Greetings everyone!

I am glad to see after several years that this thread is still alive and active. :)

I just finished reading all 13-pages and noticed that some of the info. that I posted isn't quite up to par. I will log back on later in the day to post some of my thoughts in this thread when I am better rested.

Okay, I'm back. :)

There is one very crucial piece of information that is missing in this engine build, and that would be the profile specs for the camshafts. William really needs to have those specs before he can proceed any further, but his engine build is looking great so far!

not really. got some 16in ssr reverse mesh wheels for it, but need to get them widened. ill post pics once that has been done, though my 2jzgte swap for my 84 is the primary project. been buying stuff mostly for that. when its done, then this car will get the majority of my attention.

well replacing the 7mgte with the 2jzgte will have more fun in the end. ive been bitten by the power bug so that is what set the priorities. for this one i still need to get the cams repaired, some 45mm side draft carbs, forged rods, figure out what compression i want to run and get forged pistons, id like to have the "7m" crank knife edged. im still on the hunt for some hks valve covers, then have to grab new head bolts and a metal hg, machine work on the block, machine work for the head to install the oversized ss valves. find some stiffer valve springs to support an 8k rev limit. and the list goes on.

hopefully, once the 2j is done, e85 will be common place around here and ill go with something crazy like 13:1 forged pistons and see if i can hit 300rwhp all motor. doubt it, but its worth a shot. lol.

Well, today I decided to start addressing the rust. here is what it looked like with the spoiler in place

Spoiler removed (this is why if you have an 85/86 style spoiler you need to remove it periodically to check for rust. by the time it shows below the spoiler it could be too late like the one on my 84. no metal next tot he window for a good chunk.)

and the roof

after hitting them all with the wire wheel

after cleaning and treating with por-15 metal ready

por-15 applied

the por-15 rust hole filler applied

and this is where i had to stop.

pad on my da sander disintegrated. have to buy a new one to stick the sandpaper too to finish sanding them all down. then i can do the final skim coat, final sanding, drill the hole for the 3rd brake light wire, then paint them to protect them till i get to paint the car. got some more spots elsewhere on the car to touch up as well, but these were the major ones.

well, got some really rare hard to find stuff, soooooooo, ill be running a 6m with ~10:1 compression, trimil header modified with 3in collector and 3in exhaust and 3 40mm dcoe weber carbs. heres some mock up pics on the engine. still need to clean everything up and media blast the parts and clearcoat them etc... i didnt bother installing the linkages as its just mockup to take measurements. the rear cam mount ignition will clear the firewall, just barely, and the power booster and master cylinder will be swapped for mk3 units as the rear velocity stack would hit the stock power booster. these parts as best me and dave a. can tell appear to possibly be from an old hks race car. some custom mods were done even to the parts that i thought were commercial items.

any chance you have those carb and intake for sale

Nope! Carbs have been sold. The rest? Not a chance. I would have to be offered a ridiculously stupid high amount to even consider letting the setup go. And even then I would probably still say no.

Hmmm....the placement of the cap on the back of the cam shaft gives an option for EMS sequential operation...using a wheel on both crank and cam. I wonder if there is a setup like that or if it is possible?

Been doing some research and looks like I will actually need 50mm carbs, not 45's like I was thinking. Seems the choke tube size needs to be 45mm. Sooo, since finding affordable carbs is a pita at the moment, I decided to experiment with the "6M" in the parts car. I need to yank it and pull it apart to correct some things, as well as port and polish the head. I need to measure the space between the head and power booster. I drew up flanges to make efi "carb"s out of RB26 45mm itb's, but I may just build a whole new manifold for them instead of building the "carb"s to bolt to the HKS manifold. I still plan to go carbs on the HKS kit when I get to go full out on it. These flanges are just added to the list of items I need laser cut.

And the 2 sets of RB26 ITB's I picked up. I will probably make an adapter to use the Toyota TPS instead of the Nissan like i did for the Q45 style polished TB for my 2JZGTE intake manifold.

Also, I picked up some 50mm BMW ITB's for a future 2JZGE project. I have a spare 2JZGE head and will draw up a flange for it and should be able to make a pretty straight forward manifold for them. a 2JZGE with port work, cams, header, etc.. should run pretty good. If only I could find a 1st gen celica to put it, and my MK1 solid axle in.
