i wasnt aware that toyota ever sold a special edition of any car model that collaborated with HKS for the production... maybe someone else can correct me on this one.

and was he trying?
unless youve got some serious (turbo) power, a healthy mkIII will destroy a mkII without a second glance.

He had a biger turbo and if every one remembers to spool up a turbo you need time and a good amont os space. Beside the aera where we raced is very small. Oh and it also has the HKS CPU thats the best part of the LE and as for the win well lets just say I clend my fuel system out before I raced that nite.

I've taken out quite a few mkIII's up here. The look they gave me was WTF. Most of them were turbo.

That being said. I Have had my ass handed to me quite a few times as well.

It's all fun. The MKIII"s with the big ass turbo I usually beat to the 1/8.. after that all I see are tail lights

Man I need a turbo :)

The Mk3 NA's are easy to beat. They usually run mid 17's at the track.

Stock Mk3 turbos were supposed to run low 15's in the magazines when new, but tend to run low-mid 16's when I see them at the track now. Even those with shimmed wastegates (~8psi) only run low 16's. I often beat them with my white 83 which runs 16.1 to 16.3 most nights. My 82 race car will demolish them since it runs low-mid 15's.

It's all about the weight. :)

like i said, a healthy mkIII is plenty fast enough to waste most stock mkIIs...

not saying i dont belive you, but ive driven a couple mkIIIs, and raced a couple, they can be damn quick, and the ones i raced were quite a bit quicker than my car.

i think that anyone can beat an mk III turbo if the person driving it doesn't know how to drive turbo cars very good. turbo spool makes a difference but unless they have huge ass fuckin turbo the spool time isn't a factor. Reg Reimer said his in his swap the cruise control in our cars prevents the engine from going into boost put it still has lots of power for pulling uphills. Also my friend has ridden in a mkIII and says it spools up fairly fast.

I've had my share of mark II's and mark III's. The MkII, if driven well will beat a mkIII off the line and in 1/8, but a mkIII will pass it up when it spools up. My 91mkIIIT would pass the v-8 detroit iron after they thought they'd left me in the dust - it just took a little time to get that turbo to do its thing.
I had a gutted O2 elbow, 3" DP, Random Tech Cat, HKS Dual Drager catback, K&N FIPK, Bosch BOV, TurboXS boost control set to 11 psi, and otherwise stock internals. The guy in the Vette I killed swore my car was juiced, as he called it - I assumed that meant NOS.

Hey Mike!

Yes, , I did! It feels faster, honest! On the highway in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear pulls, it's as fast or faster than other Mk2's that run 15.0 to 15.3, so maybe it's just that my drag racing skills suck!

In any case, the car is built for road racing, not drag racing.
And I've still got some ideas for making it a bit faster... Damon says he has some ideas too, I'm just waiting for him to come back up here and we can work on the car a bit. When we're done, I'll let him take it down the track and see what he can do with it. I'm sure he'll beat my times by a fair bit.
