Is this car worth buying even for dirt cheap? How much work (moneywise) you guys guestimate for this to be fixed up? I'm sitting on the fence if I should buy this or not.

And can somebody please tell me if this is an L-type or a P-type? It's a MY85. Thanks!

Well I have definately seen worse.
You really have to get inside, removed the hatch carpet and side panels to see how much is eaten away.
From just an exterior point of view, to get this looking pretty, you'll be spending far more money than what it will cost for a relatively rust free unit as the boyz on this site already pointed out.
Now is the time of year when people realize they need there garage space so the toys get sold off. Be patient and wait for something more solid. But hey, if your friend is cute and you really want to help her out, buy it for parts.
Of course, just my opinion.

Its a P-type. Cars probably worth $200 or so. Rust on the body is bad and the undercarriage is worst. Not worth restoring since youd probably would have to spend thousands.

By the way, it is a PTYPE.
Give us a few more details as well.
Mileage, std or auto. Condition of interior.
I'd be interested in the fog lights, at least the passenger side one looks pretty shiny still.

Run and run far, This car could end up costing 3500 USD, done right. The rust spots are only what you see at first glance, my guestimate would be that as you dig deeper it will only get worse.

I saw an LType for sale in florida on these forums.

I have somebody trying to give me a parts car better than that one. If it has that much surface rust, it probably has structural problem in the rear susp. It's a total loss. If you try to fix it, the rust will be back soon.

Its definately a total loss but if any of the interior parts are worth salvaging, I could help you make some money depending on how cheap you can get the car. I need good blue interior parts. See my post at

I know there's some differences between 84 and 85 but I'm not going to be too picky at this point.

Check other posts in the wanted section. If you've got the time to remove and ship parts, you could clean up. If you don't buy it, let us know what salvage yard they haul it to.

man... buncha vultures

Thanks for your guy's replies. I have yet to see the car personally. Maybe this weekend. I'm leaning on the no side right now and I don't think the owner would let it go for less than $500.

id offer about 300, depending how much you have to spend, and see what they say. if they say no, just tell them thanks, and let em know you might be interested in the future.

to buy or not to buy? That is the question

I pd $1000 for the 82 I bought in Vancouver 2 years ago. It had WAY less rust that that, and all the trim pieces were still attached. If the suspension mounts were still solid, you could consider it as a winter beater, but DON'T waste your time restoring that one.

I would pass on that one dude unless you just wanna help out your friends @ CS forums we can always use a good donor car for parts. $500? not, I know that the value of ones personal property is determined but the owner however he may need to reassess his property. If it does not run he will have to pay someone to remove it if he does not sell it, I think that the people that loves these cars are all pretty much here and you have to have a lot of love for them to even think of taking on that for a project. Wait him out and then offer him 100.00 or it will just sit there and the cancer will just eat it away.

if it was just the body panels, i think ive got a source for quarter panels for aapx. 160$ canadian, so about 110us$... not too bad, but i think in that cars case, the floor pan is probably rusted too.

$500 eh? My supra was in way better shape than that when I got it and I paid $250. Really I don't think it's worth it if you ask me.

i paid CAN$1000 for this:

CAN$250 -too much, in retrospect- for this: (not running, hole in block, parts car only)

and this cost me CAN$300, had a blown tranny:

unless you're looking in the CAN$3-400 range (if only becuase it's drivable), i'd stay away.

Why can't I pick up that many MA61s that cheap in Australia

Oh well... From what I have been hearing from other members is to paint the rust once cut out with POR-15 Paint... It is paint which is very good apparently. Ask JustCallMeFrank as he has painted his GA61 just recently with this type of paint to reduce the Rust.

Cheers.
