I know this question has been slightly addressed, but need more input. I have a jery reaction in my 84 supra when backing up and making sharp turns in parkinglot situations. Also I have a vibration at highway speeds in the coasting area. Its fine under accel and decel, but in the middle it vibrates. Sounds like a u-joint huh. I checked them all quickly and they seem fine. I suspect the center bearing/bushing on the drive shaft. Does this sound like a problem anyone else has had? Lastly does anyone know where to get replacement part cheap? Thanks.

I would check all steering and suspension parts. Ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, control arm bushings etc. etc. Also engine, trans, and diff mounts/bolts.

Center bearing/u-joint failure isn't common in MK2s as far as I know. But that doesn't mean yours aren't bad. I believe the front and rear driveshaft sections are balanced together therefore if they were reassembled incorrectly at somepoint they could be "out of phase" and possibly causing a vibration. Check to see if any balancing weights have fallen off too. If they did you could probaby find a different colored rectangle where it was. Otherwise check wheel balance and tire tread wear (choppiness) for vibration.

thanks for the input. I know the vibration is from driveline. I think the bushing that hold diveshaft sections in middle has gone soft and at heavy torque situations it flops around...what do you think? :?:

i had a similiar problem with my mk2, in first gear at wot i would vibrate when it would hit peak torque from the rpms, below or above that it wouldnt vibrate at all, and it turned out it was the center bearing, and i replaced it and it was fine for a year now its doing the same thing and it might me the same thing or the u joints my driveshaft is kinda loose so i think its my u joints

Does it happen when coasting down a hill, car in gear but not applying gas? Does it only happen around the same RPM range? Could be a warped or unbalanced flywheel. Clutch pressure plate could have uneven wear.

What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

Vibration occurs at speed when in between accel and decel. In other words when my foot is pushing on the gas or when it is off the gas there is no vibration. I got under the car and grabbed drive shaft right next to center bearing support and moved it around. It seems to move way more than I think it should (.5-.75inches). Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this before and where I can find a cheap part. :violin: :mk2vroom: :mk2vroom:

Hey guys, first post on the list after a couple years away, last time I was on the forums were under Yahoo and not as good, great Job on things.

Anyway back to the topic, I have a vibration in my MKII as well however mine is more a on and off throttle thing. No noise or vibration until I let go of the gas and then its a loud gring for a split second. Noise also happens a high speeds (over 130km/h if I put car into neutral and just coast, pushing gear shift towards a gear with clutch not engaged makes noise go away. This is coming from the rearend and I have decided to haul the diff apart over the winter and do a complete rebuild. Anyone have any suggestions on the cause of this noise? Im think pinion bearings.
