Ok, I am going to buy a 1984 celica supra and it seems that it leaks oil out of the top left hand corner of the engine...if you are looking at it from the top, in front of the car.

I dont understand what causes this, my friend tol dme that it just needs new valve cover gaskets

buying an old car, i know i should look out for problems, so what kind of problems should i look for? PLEASE help me out! Tell me what i should look for since its such and old car...what are the things that break alot on an 84 supra type of car.!

Mine also leaked a ton of oil from that spot when I got it. The rear cam carrier cover gasket was shot. I think they go on the exhaust side first due to higher amount of heat on that side. Anyhow, you can replace this gasket pretty easily, you don't need to remove much of anything to get at it, although it is tight quarters working with the cam carries still installed. Take a 10mm wrench and you have to remove 3 bolts to get the triangular cover off, replace the gasket and bolt it back up. I used some rtv on mine to seal it up really nicely, but I had the cam carries removed from the car when I did it. If that is the leaky area this should do it. Good luck.

I'd also say it's either the valve cover gasket or the rear cam seals.

Happened to my first engine. (although my mechanic supposedly replaced the valve cover gasket and rear cam seals and all yet my engine still leaked and eventually then blew up and siezed, so maybe don't listen to me)
After like 20 years those things can get really worn.

what else

ok, so i got the car checked out by a mechanic and he said all the fluids need to be replaced because its been sitting for a while,...

the engine supposedly leaks oil between the timing belt, or thebearings of the cams or somthing... but i know there is a hole in the top front left corner of the engine right undernearth the head...i think its between the cam head and the lower peice of the engine...

Since its such and old car, what else should i be looking for? Please help me out!?

Maybe instead of saying left or right you shold refer to it as passenger side or drivers side.

Usually when someone says left or right it is as if you were sitting in the driver seat.

If there is an actual hole in the block under the cam carrier then you better be geting the car for like $100 and be prepared to either have the hole welded or replace the engine (what caused the hole?).

Make sure the mechanic checks for worn bearings, rotors, stearing box, front and rear suspention components, rust around the rear hatch and gas door. Make sure the head light motors work and pour alot of water over the top of the car to see if the sunroof leaks (if it has one).

Good luck.
