OK folks, I have a question. I bought what I thought was a mk4 w58 from Florida. I get it home and it looks like a mk3 w58. The shift lever retainer/cover is offset towards the rear, just like the mk3, but it has an electronic speedo sensor. I checked my 88 mk3 and it uses a cable just like the mk2. Is this off the sc300? Or did I get jacked and they sent me a mk3 w58. Did the later year mk3's come with electronic speedo? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pretty sure Mk3s were always mechanical speedos. I would think the SC300 shifter would look like the Mk4 NA shifter since both are based on the same chassis. Maybe somebody pulled the switcharoo on you and installed the electronic speedo into a Mk3 W58 :?

OK, I didn't see this before, but it has a VIN number on the tranny. I checked it out and it came from a 92 sc300 (may production). Is this one of the newer, beefed up w58's or one of the older ones?

Thanks

In case anyone cares.... I figured out the answer. I called my buddy at toyota parts and a lexus dealer along with a bearing manufacturer. Luckily, all the sc300's used the w58 with the larger input shaft bearing. WHEW! Now I'm going to call up dipshit and call him...well...a dipshit. Thanks for the help.

I'm (was) complaining because I bought what was advertised as a 96 supra gearbox (better box than my mk2) I get it home and it is not a mk4 box, and looks like a mk3 box (same as what I have on my mk2). I didn't want to pay 550 for something I already had, which I could buy tons of at my local pic-n-pull for $60. Thats why I was tripping. Not to mention, on top of that, I put up with 2 months of excuses on why it wasn't in the mail yet. And when I found out it was a 92 sc300 box, I didn't know if that was the better mk4 style or the not so better mk3 style box. Luckily all turned out fine, as I found out that it was internally the same as the mk4.
